(1/2) Leah. I read your story & I have to say that it REALLY & TRULY inspired & still inspires me. You have FIGHT and I wholeheartly admire that. My former dance teacher was diagnosed with MS a few years ago but she DOES NOT let that stop her. She continues to teach class every week because that is her passion. With all sincerity, I have to say that that is what MOTIVATES me; every time I am down, I think about her.

My response: To the woman sharing her testimony: as an African-American lesbian in this era, it is easy to be succumbed to a lifestyle that is unhealthy; trying to live up to & exceed the expectations of what society’s perceptions & definition of a “stud” is.—i.e. baggy jeans, durags, fitted caps, a womanizer attitude, an aggressive, emotionless demeanor, drinking & smoking to feel and look more masculine & powerful. However, these are all hetero-normative directives that many studs and many heterosexual males are enveloped in to provide themselves with a false empowerment that has been engraved into societal norms. The patriarchy that, sadly, studs often perpetuate by treating women with a lack of respect, and inhaling & swallowing the smokes and liquids of toxins & carcinogens. These things don’t occur, because of a homosexual demon, but because of a learned societal demon that falsely led you to believe the notion that in order to be a stud, “I must act like this.” This has given studs the stigma that they are trying to be men, while this is ABSOLUTELY NOT THE CASE for so many lesbians. Drinking & smoking, & hanging out in Greenwich Village as opposed to worshipping Jesus in church is, by no means, behaviors limited to homosexuals, nor does it accompany the “lifestyle.” Those are all choices, of which homosexuality is not. Being gay or lesbian has been stigmatized as a phase, & sadly, some people have come out, because it has become a fad. Nevertheless, let me assure you all that I am a non-gender conforming lesbian, who does not smoke, drink, or treat women, or any human being, for that matter, with a lack of respect. I have an immensely powerful faith in Jesus, and I can testify that Jesus saved ME from a lifestyle of oppression. Oppression by whom? I WAS oppressed by a demon that told me that I cannot express who I am, because the Bible says that homosexuality will not be accepted. The same demon that told me to suppress my true feelings for the woman I love & have been extremely happy with for two years in order to please that same demon that made my own flesh & blood abandon & disown me, because I would rather intertwine my fingers with a woman’s than to be the housewife of a man. Trust me, these demons are far worse than any “gay demon” that may possess me or my fellow homosexuals. The Bible prohibits many things that are ignored, but it seems as though banning homosexuality is the only rule obeyed. This hypocrisy is based on ignorance & selfishness that needs to be stopped.

First off, I wish you the best in your journey with MS, but you are NOT alone! My girlfriend of 2 years was diagnosed with MS this past September, and it has been a battle!
